Welcome:  President Frank Rohrbough welcomed= the attendees.

Committee Reports:

= A.     Knight Essay:  Compatriot Bowles = has received 4 entries for the Contest. He will review the entries and select t= he best entry for our Award.

= B.     ROTC:  Compatriot Snyder reported that he= has three new members – Lee Oliver, Rueben Perez and Mike Boland – = to help him.

= C.     Newsletter:  Compatriot Harcourt noted that the= next Newsletter would be sent out shortly.

= D.     Flag Program:  Compatriot John = Orr was reported that a Flag Certificate was presented to the Stone Oak Ophthalmology Cente= r on November 28th. President Rohrbough and Compatriot Peter Baron= were present. Compatriot Orr noted that plans are underway to present a Flag Certificate to Ferguson Plumbing Supplies in January 2008.

 

Old Business:

A.&n= bsp;    Status of Budget: Compatriot Higginson was absent so no report was given.

B.&n= bsp;    Induction of New Members: President Rohrbough reported that there were no new members; no inductions will be conducted at= the December Chapter Meeting. Compatriot Harcourt noted that he had received two new member packets for Compatriots Curtis Field Andrews and James Henry Plunkett. They will be inducted at a future meeting. He also noted that he = has a Supplemental Certificate for Compatriot Herman Henry James that is ready = for presentation.

C.&n= bsp;    Patriot Ancestor Stories: Compatriot Massing= ill reported that he was still looking for stories of Patriot Ancestors for our collection. Compatriot Bowles commented that these stories should be publis= hed into a book sometime in the future. Members agreed that the book would be a valued historical document for future reference. Compatriot Massingill repo= rted that he has a vignette on Ft. Necessity for the Newsletter.

D.&n= bsp;    Report on Participation in Fiesta (for 2008): Compatriot Ed Heath reported that he wanted to have the President join him to meet with the Fiesta staff to address our participation in Fiesta in 2008. He noted t= hat we would have to conduct an event that would have to be approved by the Fie= sta Committee during Fiesta (April 2008). Based on early discussion, the EC Committee agreed that our “Let Freedom Ring” Ceremony would be = our program and should be acceptable to the Fiesta Committee. Compatriot Heath and President Rohrbough will set up a meeting with the Fiesta Staff in January. 

= E.      Election of Officers for 2008: Compatriot Stephen Rohrbough noted that the slate= of officer for 2008 was reported to the membership at the November Chapter Mee= ting and that the Election would be held during the December 12th Meeting. He noted that Compatriot Peter Baron volunteered to serve as Treas= urer in lieu of Vice President. The slate will be amended for the Election.

= F.      Chapter Report for TXSSAR for 2007: President Rohrbough called for Committee Ch= airs to submit their inputs to him soon so that the Chapter Report can be submit= ted in early January.  

 

New Business:

A.     Next Chapter Meeting: Since there is no scheduled program (no speaker) for t= he December Meeting, Compatriot Bowles suggested that we ask members to briefly comment on their Patriot Ancestor giving the patriots name and how they contributed to the revolutionary cause. The suggestion was accepted.

B.&n= bsp;    Programs for January 2008: President Rohrbou= gh noted that Maxine Heath would be our guest speaker at the January 23, 2008 Chapter Meeting. She will dress in period dress and speak as a “Frien= d of Martha Washington”.

 

Other Business:

  • SAR Booth at Convention Center: = President Rohrbough reported that = he had received an invitation from the American Heritage Education Foundation (AHEF) asking our Chapter to host a booth at the National Association = of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) 92nd Annual Convention.= The meeting will be held at the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center in San Antonio on February 22-24, 2008. The AHEF will provide all materials a= nd pay all expenses for setting up the booth. The primary task for the Chapter is to set up the booth, operate it during the Convention, and promote AHEF and its educational programs (school lessons) on American Heritage. The program is fully endorsed by NSSAR. Following discussion= s, the Committee agreed to take on this tasking. President Rohrbough will= be the Event Coordinator and seek support from our Chapter members and ot= her SAR Chapters in the area. 
  • History Fair: President Rohrbough reported that= we have been invited to participate in a History Fair at Frank Tejeda Mid= dle School on April 5, 2008. This is a good event for us to spread the word about SAR.

Because President Rohrbough had to leave the meeting early, the meeting was turned over to Vice President Bowles. 

  • Financial Review of Chapter Book= s:&= nbsp; Compatriot Bowles noted that if Compatriot Jay Higginson is ele= cted President and we have a new Treasurer, a financial review should be conducted before the new Treasurer takes office. Following some discussion, the Committee agreed that a financial review be done and Compatriot Harry Long agreed to serve as the Chair of this Committee. =

 

Adjournment:  There being no other matters to address, Vice President Bowles adjourned the meeting at 12:40 PM.
